Afripoli

What we do

Afripoli, an initiative of the Institute European Security Journal, leverages over 8 years of experience analyzing security and political affairs globally. Together with our partners, we’ve actively contributed to shaping political and security discourse through various projects and events. Now, with Afripoli, our focus is on fostering proactive collaboration and forging meaningful connections to drive development in sub-Saharan Africa.

Vojtěch Bílý, director

Afripoli

We have launched Afripoli as an initiative dedicated to enhancing understanding of the security, political, business, economic, and legislative landscapes across various African nations. Through collaboration with local experts, and active engagement in the region, Afripoli strives to provide valuable insights and foster meaningful dialogue and knowledge sharing within the community.

European Security Journal

In the publication European Security Journal (ESJ), we focused on security and political topics relevant to Europe. We aimed to offer brief, concise, and unbiased information to the European public, with a focus from the perspective of V4 countries. The European Security Journal provided commentaries, analyses, interviews, and reports in three language mutations – English, Czech and Romanian.

The editorial team, comprised of 20 individuals including experts, journalists, graduates, and students, collaborated with academic institutions and think tanks. The portal attracted an average of 10,000 unique visitors monthly.

Active from 2017 to 2021, the publication is now archived at the National Library Archive and accessible for search.

Podcast: ESJ Insight

The ESJ Insight Podcast featured an array of security experts, ranging from journalists and academic researchers to politicians and military authorities. These thought-provoking discussions delved into crucial topics that extend beyond conventional military affairs, exploring the ever-evolving threats posed by technology, climate change, and geopolitical dynamics. ESJ Insight goes the extra mile to unearth the implications of these challenges, peer into the future, and piece together the broader security landscape.

Prague European Summit

In 2021, we forged a media partnership with the Prague European Summit, where we also took charge of moderating the discussion panel “EU-UK Internal Security Relations Post-Brexit: Common Grounds for Enhanced Cooperation”.

Euractiv Publications

We cultivate valuable relationships with regional collaborators. In partnership with the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Prague office and Euractiv in 2019, we produced Special Reports titled:
The Future of the EU’s Eastern Partnership: Challenges and Opportunities”
Foreign influence in the Western Balkan countries
Both reports were followed by expert roundtables.

You can find other articles prepared by our team on Euractiv’s website.

Eastern Partnership Security Review

In cooperation with the European online newspaper Brussels Morning, we have contributed a column detailing political and security developments in the Eastern European region.

"Prayer for Peace"

Documentary from Ukrainian Frontlines.

In 2019, ESJ journalist Jonas Vlk and filmmaker Ondrej Nedved travelled to Donbass region to record the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia. With assistance from Team4Ukraine, they traveled undercover, filming in trenches, Right Sector bases, and crossings between so called Luhansk and Donbass Peoples’ Republics, capturing aspects of the prolonged conflict. The resulting 32-minute ESJ documentary was screened at various events and film competitions.
