Building Sustainable Partnerships: Afripoli Meets with the Municipality of Parcelles Assainies

In early July, Afripoli hosted a working meeting in Prague with a high-level delegation from Parcelles Assainies, a major district of Dakar, the capital city of Senegal in West Africa. The delegation was led by Mayor Aboubacar Djamil Sané and included senior municipal officials and a representative of the National Assembly.

The discussions focused on identifying practical avenues for collaboration in renewable energy and the circular economy—particularly in solar power and municipal-scale recycling solutions, two strategic areas within Afripoli’s portfolio for West Africa.

Both sides exchanged views on how to support sustainable urban development through decentralised cooperation and locally adapted solutions. Afripoli presented its work in the region and explored opportunities to combine Czech technological expertise with Senegalese priorities in areas such as clean energy and waste management.

The meeting also reflected a broader effort to revitalize cooperation between Central Europe and West Africa. Mayor Sané, beyond his municipal role, is a prominent political figure in Senegal and plays a key role in the ruling party PASTEF. His visit to the Czech Republic—supported by both Senegalese and Czech institutions—demonstrates a shared interest in expanding bilateral ties and promoting mutually beneficial investment.

This engagement is part of Afripoli’s mission to connect public authorities and private partners across continents and to co-develop solutions that are practical, future-oriented, and locally grounded. A follow-up workshop in Senegal is envisioned to refine technical options and explore financing frameworks together with the municipality and potential partners.
