Russia Delivers Significant Arms Shipment to Central African Republic

On May 17, a Russian Air Force Il-76MD (registration RF-78797) landed at Bangui M'Poko International Airport in the Central African Republic, delivering 5,000 Kalashnikov assault rifles. This shipment, confirmed by Russian Ambassador Vladimir Titorenko, marks the third and largest arms delivery in three years, aimed at strengthening the CAR government's efforts against militia groups. This significant influx of small arms underscores Russia's continued commitment to bolstering its ally’s security and stability in the region.

On 17 May, a Russian Air Force Il-76MD (registration RF-78797) landed at the Bangui M’Poko International Airport in the Central African Republic.


According to Russian Ambassador Vladimir Titorenko, the transport aircraft delivered small arms including 5,000 kalashnikov assault rifles. This latest – third and largest in three years – batch of weapons to the CAR is aimed at bolstering the government’s efforts against militia groups.
