On 17 May, a Russian Air Force Il-76MD (registration RF-78797) landed at the Bangui M’Poko International Airport in the Central African Republic.
According to Russian Ambassador Vladimir Titorenko, the transport aircraft delivered small arms including 5,000 kalashnikov assault rifles. This latest – third and largest in three years – batch of weapons to the CAR is aimed at bolstering the government’s efforts against militia groups.
